Is it worth 13-bucks to get your print colors to always match your screen colors?

Digital Color

Investing in your color management is always a good investment -- particularly when you can see your color selections in print. During my DGEF Creative Layout Techniques seminars one of the most frequent questions from attendees was how do your get the print color to look like the screen color? That's always been one of the tough nuts to crack -- and my answer and solution to ALL those screen to print color woes was : See it in print. Period. There is no monitor, and no software that will satisfy your color eye. If this was available then, this would have been what I would recommend. August 14, 2017

Signs of the Times : New NAIL Magazine Celebrates Creatives in the Resistance

nail_magazineFolks, I don't generally run just any piece that appears in my in-box, and certainly I try to steer clear of political issues (particularly in these times) but Ted Leonhardt has been a contributor over the years, and is certainly qualified to grace the pages of DT&G. He's come up with some crazy stuff in the past, but this? Well, this might just top them all! A magazine for creatives in the resistance? I know I'll catch a lot of crap on this one, but go ahead . . . hit me with your best crap! August 10, 2017

In-House or Freelance Graphic Designers need high power project planning

In all the years I've been in the design and visual communications business, I've found the best way to plan is with a map! A visual layout for the plan. Dayplanners and all those calendar things really cannot match a big visual map on the wall. This could help you in visualizing, planning, and managing projects on the macOS, iOS, and Android platforms. July 19, 2017

A new Graphic Design Tool includes a Collection of 6,000+ Free Templates

I don't often recommend sites or programs that take the talent out of the equation for producing good graphic arts. You'll remember that no template, and no tutorial and no YouTube can get you through a successful appendectomy or tooth removal. Yes, Crello lets anyone produce graphics -- but in the hands of a trained graphic designer, some rather extraordinary things can be produced! Take a look July 13, 2017

Fred Showker's Creative tidbits

Here we are, rolling into vacation season -- and you'll have your camera, and maybe even the camera in your iPhone, and you'll want to discover some fun apps that go along with fun on vacation! Some of these we selected because they're great fun and great capabilities right out of the box -- others we chose because of their sophistication and benefit to the designer. The two typography items are home runs, and will make a better rounded experience for adding type to designs and images!

Penmanship for iOS: Draw fascinating variations with simple pen pressure

I wrote about this new app in 2016, when they launched Calligraphy Penmanship for iOS devices. Its most important feature is based on the pressure control of the Apple Pencil on the screen of the iPad Pro. In fact, for writing Penmanship, angle and azimuth sensitivities are not helpful to produce beautiful shades of stylish letters. May 1, 2017
